Detent pieces are used in conjunction with spring-loaded thrust pieces when low-wear and accurate locking is required. In order to achieve optimum detent behaviour of the resilient thrust pieces, the maximum distance a between the detent piece and the resilient thrust piece should not be exceeded. The maximum distance a is calculated from the difference between the spring travel w of the selected thrust piece and the penetration depth s of the ball into the counterbore. Their use is particularly recommended for thrust pieces with increased spring pressure.
