Clamping nuts are used for rotating parts, in particular for shafts that can be reversed in the direction of rotation, e.g. for mounting grinding wheels. The compact design ensures safe function and enables fast assembly by means of a face spanner.

Compared to other locking methods, the clamping nut is characterised by the following advantages:

  • self-locking (even with changing direction of rotation of the shaft)
  • simple assembly / disassembly
  • even for repetitive clamping operations

Material

  • tempered steel, Burnished

Assembly

The clamping nut consists of an outer ring and an inner ring, which form one unit. The outer ring has a tapered bore, while the slotted inner ring has a tapered outer surface and an internal thread. When the clamping nut is tightened using a face wrench, the two conical surfaces move against each other. This causes the slotted inner ring to narrow like a collet. The nut jams over the flanks of the thread so much that it does not loosen even when the axis rotates in the opposite direction.
