U-magnets have a split holding surface. These are unshielded magnet systems manufactured by the casting process. In order not to influence the magnetic properties (holding forces), fastening screws made of a non-magnetic material are preferable. For easier handling and to avoid demagnetisation, these magnets are supplied with a sheet of iron on the holding surface.
